Everything you need to know about Common Application
The Common Application or the Common App as the name suggests is one common application form that gathers your information and sends out the application to various universities of your choice.
Around 900+ schools in the USA and many others around the globe accept the common application.
“We want to make it simple for students to apply for various colleges and universities at the same time, reducing barriers and hassle for students.”
says Jenny Rickard, president, and CEO of The Common Application.
Here’s what you need to do.
- Create your online profile
- Fill out all relevant details
- Select the colleges you want to apply to
- Submit your application
How does the common app work?
When you create the account you put in general information like your name, country, scores, and address once.
This space enables you to also monitor your performance, track any available scholarships and let you know about financial aid.
Deadlines to look for.
Common App opens every year for students on August 1st and closes on January 1st.
Students can always update their profile before August 1st and send in their applications once the application opens. One thing to keep in mind is to keep track of college deadlines which can be confusing so it’s always better to plan your application ahead and apply as soon as the application opens.
Understanding the basic requirements:
Every college application has its requirement and its best to keep all the required documents and essays prepared. Some colleges may need a single recommendation letter while others may want one from your teacher and the other from counselors. Research about the college you want to apply to ahead and keep all the necessary documents with you to apply early.
Keep these documents ready if you’re applying through the common app:
- Official transcript
- Standardized Test Scores
- Letter of Recommendation
Along with the basic details, there’s an activity section that is deemed important. This section shows how you prefer to spend your time outside the classroom.
Always write the activities in order of their significance and your leadership role in it. Choose the activity where you were an integral part or where your participation had made an impact.
In short, the common app is a great way to apply to various colleges with just one application. Before going for the common app, it’s suggested that you shortlist your college and research their requirements.
